Tower Takeover - Devlog 2



The Spring 2025 Florida Polytechnic University Game Expo is less than a week away, and we've done a lot of work on Tower Takeover getting it ready to showcase! Primarily, we want to show off how we designed the different movement abilities for the players that we showcased last week in our previous devlog.
We have all of our meetings in person, in rooms with large whiteboards where we can play around with ideas. We all took turns with markers writing out ideas for movement abilities, being inspired by games like Celeste, Jump King, Spider-Man, and many more. We originally wrote down ideas without any regard for the individual characters, thinking that all players will have the same movement abilities, only with different attack methods. But as the game design evolved, we decided that attacks will be defined by items, and that individual characters will each have their own movement abilities.
The trouble now is balancing all of the abilities while keeping the game fun, which is a QA problem that every designer has to go through.
Tower Takeover will premiere and be playable during the Spring 2025 Game Expo at Florida Polytechnic University on April 19th! Game Expo is a showcase of all student games, and at the end prizes are given out to the games with the most votes! If you plan on attending please consider voting for Tower Takeover.
